SecureCRT alternative Edgely Console

A SecureCRT alternative that does more than the terminal

SecureCRT is a solid, long-lived terminal and file transfer client. Edgely Console covers the same ground and adds the parts a SecureCRT user normally opens a second tool for: remote desktop, containers and an encrypted vault, on all three desktop platforms.

Why teams switch from SecureCRT to Edgely Console

  • RDP and VNC built in, so no second remote desktop client
  • Docker, Kubernetes and Proxmox panels beside the terminal
  • Encrypted vault with AES-256-GCM and an Argon2id-derived key
  • Saved connections sync across devices while credentials stay on the machine
  • Free for personal use, every feature unlocked

Where SecureCRT may suit you better

SecureCRT has decades of session scripting behind it, in VBScript, Python and Perl, and teams often have large libraries written against that API. Edgely Console extends through sandboxed WASM plugins instead, which is a younger surface and will not run those scripts.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can Edgely replace SecureCRT for scripted sessions?

For day to day work, yes: saved sessions, jump hosts, key authentication and SFTP all behave the same. If you rely on large VBScript or Python suites, check those first: Edgely Console extends through sandboxed WASM plugins, not a scripting host.

Is Edgely really free for personal use?

Yes. Edgely Console and Edgely Database Manager are free and complete for personal use: every feature unlocked, no time limit, no nag screens, no account needed. A paid licence is required when a company uses them for work.

Does Edgely run on macOS, Windows and Linux?

Yes, natively on all three. The Rust core compiles to native binaries and the Flutter UI is hardware-accelerated, so the same build runs on macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon), Windows 10 and 11, and Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora or Arch. A mobile companion ships on Android and iOS.

Can I import my existing servers?

Edgely Console imports MobaXterm session exports (.mxtsessions), Remote Desktop Manager files (.rdm, .xml or .json) and Edgely's own .econ, .evlt, .efull and .eset exports. Other tools are typed in once for now. A MobaXterm or Remote Desktop Manager file brings the hosts, ports, users and folders, never the passwords those tools encrypt; Remote Desktop Manager's user names can also go into the vault, and an encrypted Edgely export or a password manager's CSV fills the vault directly. Whichever route you take, the credential lands in the encrypted vault on the device and is never uploaded.

Try Edgely Console beside SecureCRT

Install it, add a couple of hosts or import a MobaXterm or Remote Desktop Manager export, and keep SecureCRT until you are satisfied. Your keys stay on your machine either way.
