Edgely IDE Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 3, 2026 (version 1.0)

This policy explains how Edgely IDE, the code editor and remote development app for tablets, handles personal data. It covers the app only: the edgely.io website has its own privacy policy, at https://edgely.io/legal/privacy. The current version of this policy is published at https://edgely.io/legal/privacy-ide.

In short: the app collects nothing about you, sends nothing to us, and keeps what you enter on your tablet.

1. Summary

  • No telemetry. No analytics, no usage statistics, no advertising identifier, no tracking. There is no setting for it, because there is nothing to switch on or off.
  • No crash reporting. The app contains no crash reporter and sends no error report.
  • No contact with our servers. The app sends no request to any server we operate: no account, no licence check, no update check.
  • Your data stays on your tablet. Apart from the backups and device transfers in section 5 and the files you export or save elsewhere yourself (sections 4 and 10), it leaves the tablet only when you connect to a server or service you chose, and it goes only to that server or service.
  • Nothing sold, nothing shared. We receive no personal data from the app, so we have none to sell or to share.

2. Who is responsible

Edgely IDE is published by SIGEAD SRL, the controller of the personal data described in this policy:

  • SIGEAD SRL, Avenue Pasteur 6H, 1300 Wavre, Belgium
  • Enterprise number (BCE/KBO): 1014.169.345
  • Email: contact@edgely.io

3. What the app does not collect

Edgely IDE has no telemetry. It collects no analytics, no feature-usage counters, no performance measurements, no crash or error reports, no device or installation identifier, no advertising identifier and no location, and it reads nothing from your contacts, photos, camera or microphone. It contains no third-party library that does any of these things.

There is no consent screen and no privacy switch for any of this, because there is nothing to consent to: no collection exists, not even one that is turned off by default.

The app never sends a request to a server operated by us. It has no account, no licence activation, no device registration and no update check: updates come from the app store. The edgely.io addresses in the app are shown as text you can copy; the app never opens or fetches them.

This is a fixed rule of the product, not a default setting. Section 14 explains what would have to happen before it could change.

4. What stays on your tablet

Everything you enter in the app is stored in its private storage on your tablet, which other apps cannot read:

  • The vault. Your passwords, SSH private keys and access tokens, and the keys of the servers you trust, are kept in an encrypted file named vault.edb, in the app's private Application Support folder. Section 11 describes the encryption.
  • Notes, sketches, boards and scratch pads. They are kept in separate files in the same private folder, encrypted with a key that only the unlocked vault provides.
  • Settings and lists. Your preferences, your saved connections (name, server address, port and username, never a password or a key), the names of your identities (their keys are in the vault), recent projects, run configurations and bookmarks. They contain no secret, so they are not encrypted by the vault.
  • Clipboard history. Off unless you turn it on; when it is on, its entries are encrypted. The app reads the system clipboard only when you ask it to, for example when you paste.
  • The working log. While the app runs, it keeps a short log in memory, with secrets removed. The log is never written to a file and never sent anywhere; it disappears when the app closes.
  • Your projects. Your files stay in the folders where you keep them.

On iPad, the app's Documents folder appears in the Files app under On My iPad > Edgely IDE: the projects and files you create there are visible to you in the Files app. The vault, the settings and the app's other data are kept outside this folder and do not appear in the Files app. A folder you open from elsewhere through the Files picker stays where it is, and the app reaches it only through the access you granted.

On Android tablets, the projects and files you create in the app stay in its private storage. A folder you open through the system folder picker stays where it is, and the app reaches it only through the access you granted.

Biometric unlock is handled by the operating system: the app only learns whether the check succeeded, never your biometric data. The app's notifications are created on the tablet itself; it uses no push notification service.

5. Backups

On iPad, the system's device backups (iCloud Backup, or a backup on a computer) include the app's data under Apple's terms, as they do for any other app:

  • A vault protected by a master password is included. It stays encrypted and cannot be opened without the password.
  • A device-only vault (opened with a key kept on this iPad, with or without Face ID or Touch ID) is excluded, because its key never leaves the iPad, and it stays excluded if you later switch it to a master password. After a restore to another iPad, you set it up again.
  • Your notes, sketches, boards and scratch pads are included, encrypted. They open only with the vault they were sealed with.
  • The app's caches are excluded.

When you delete the app, the iPad may keep the random key of a device-only vault in its keychain. That key is useless without the vault file, which is deleted with the app.

On Android tablets, the app opts out of cloud backup: none of its data goes into the backup of your Google account. When you move to a new tablet with a direct device-to-device transfer, the system may copy the app's settings and files, but never the vault or its key, so the encrypted notes, sketches, boards and scratch pads it copies cannot be opened on the new tablet.

6. What leaves your tablet, and where it goes

Apart from the backups and device transfers in section 5 and the files you export or save elsewhere yourself (sections 4 and 10), data leaves your tablet only when you connect to a server or service, and it goes only to that server or service:

  • SSH and SFTP servers. When you connect to a server you entered, the app sends it what it needs to sign you in (your username, and your password or key) and then what you do there: commands, terminal input and files. Docker management, port forwarding and the other remote tools work over the same connection, with the same server. Git commands, such as clone, fetch, pull and push, run on that server, which reaches its Git remote itself. The connection is encrypted by SSH. The app checks the server's key, asks you to confirm it the first time, and warns you if it changes.

These servers are run by you or by a provider you chose, under their own terms and privacy policies. We take no part in these connections: there is no proxy, relay or copy of ours in between, and we never see what passes through them.

On iPad, the system asks for your permission the first time the app connects to a device on your local network. The app uses that access only to reach the servers you entered.

7. AI features

This version of Edgely IDE has no AI features and sends nothing to any AI service. If a later version adds them, this policy will first say what they send, to whom, and under whose control.

8. The app store

Edgely IDE is distributed through the App Store. When you download it, Apple processes your account and download data under its own privacy policy, as an independent controller.

If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers (Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements > Share With App Developers), Apple may give us crash reports and aggregated usage statistics for the app. Apple collects this data, not the app, and you can switch it off there at any time.

Edgely IDE is distributed through Google Play. When you download it, Google processes your account and download data under its own privacy policy, as an independent controller.

If usage and diagnostics sharing is on in your device settings, Google may give us crash reports and aggregated statistics about the app's installs and stability. Google collects this data, not the app, and you can switch it off in your device settings at any time.

These reports reach us without your name or your account. We use them only to find and fix defects, and we never combine them with other data. If you post a review in the store, the store shows it to us and to the public under its own terms.

9. When you write to us

If you write to contact@edgely.io, we receive your email address, your name if you give it, and whatever your message contains, for example the build information the app's support sheet lets you copy. We use them only to answer you and to fix the problem you report, never for marketing.

  • Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering your request and improving the app (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
  • Retention: we keep the exchange for up to 24 months after our last message, then delete it, unless the law requires us to keep it longer.
  • Recipients: our email provider stores the messages on our behalf, as our processor. Nobody else receives them.

Please do not send passwords, private keys or confidential code. The contact form at https://edgely.io/contact is part of the website, and the website's privacy policy applies to it.

10. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct and erase your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw any consent you gave.

The data the app stores is on your tablet, under your control, and we hold no copy of it:

  • You see and correct it in the app itself.
  • Settings > Import / export writes your settings to an .eset file that you keep, with anything that looks like a secret removed, and encrypted if you set a passphrase.
  • Import / export > Export, on the Welcome screen and the Connections screen, writes the parts you tick to an .eset file that you keep: your settings, with anything that looks like a secret removed; your saved connections; your notes; and your identities with the passwords and private keys the vault holds for them. The identities are encrypted with a passphrase of at least 12 characters that you set; the other parts, your notes included, are not encrypted, so keep the file where only you can reach it.
  • Settings > Wipe everything erases your settings, saved connections and identities, recent projects, notes and activity log. Reset vault, on the vault's unlock screen, erases the vault; the notes, sketches, boards and scratch pads sealed with it can then no longer be opened, and deleting the app removes them.
  • Deleting the app removes all of its data from your tablet. Backups made earlier follow section 5.

For the messages you sent us, write to contact@edgely.io. We answer within one month, as the GDPR requires.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority: in Belgium, the Data Protection Authority (Autorité de protection des données / Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit), Rue de la Presse 35, 1000 Brussels, https://www.dataprotectionauthority.be, or the authority of the country where you live or work.

We do not sell or share personal information, in the sense of the California Consumer Privacy Act or any similar law.

11. Security

  • The vault is encrypted with AES-256-GCM. With a master password, the key is derived with Argon2id (64 MiB of memory, 3 passes, parallelism 2); we never know the password and cannot recover it. With device-only unlock, the key is a random 256-bit key kept in the tablet's secure key storage, and it never leaves the tablet.
  • An integrity check on the vault file detects tampering, and the vault can lock itself after a period without activity.
  • SSH connections are encrypted, and server keys are checked as described in section 6.
  • We hold no copy of your data, so a breach of our systems could not expose it.

12. Children

Edgely IDE is a tool for software developers and is not directed at children under 13. The app collects no personal data from anyone. If a child under 13 has written to us, a parent or guardian can ask us to delete the message at contact@edgely.io.

13. Third parties and transfers

We share no personal data with third parties. The app contains no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting library, and no company, including any company related to us, receives data from it. The only parties that receive data from the app are the servers you connect to yourself (section 6). If we ever worked with a third party that received user data, it would have to protect that data as this policy does, and this policy would say so first.

Because the app sends us nothing, we transfer no personal data from the app outside the European Economic Area.

14. Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, we publish the new version at https://edgely.io/legal/privacy-ide with a new date, and the next version of the app includes it. The app shows the policy of the version you have installed.

This policy reserves no right to start collecting data. No telemetry, no crash reporting and no contact with our servers is a rule of the product. A version that sent data anywhere new would be released only after this policy described it, and its release notes would say so.
