Mac ⇄ Android E2E Encrypted Generous free tier
Apple’s Android File Transfer tool is unmaintained, MTP over a cable is unreliable, and uploading to a cloud drive is slow and leaks the file to a third party. Edgely Transfer puts your Mac and your Android phone on the same Device Ring over your own network and moves files straight between them, encrypted with TLS 1.3.
Both apps ship today: Edgely Transfer for macOS is a signed, notarized DMG, and Edgely Transfer Mobile is on Google Play for Android 8 and later. Sending and receiving files is free on every tier, on as many devices as you own.
Edgely Transfer for macOS is a signed and notarized DMG on the downloads page. On the phone, install Edgely Transfer Mobile from Google Play.
Both devices announce themselves on the network, so each appears on the other’s Device Ring. Scan the QR code with the phone, or accept the request on both screens. Pairing is mutual and one time.
Drag a file or a folder onto the device on the ring, or pick files from the phone. Progress is shown as it goes, and each file is verified against its SHA-256 when it lands.
No. Both devices talk over the network you are already on, so no cable, no MTP driver and no Google account are involved. A cable is only useful for the USB tools in the app, never for a transfer.
Yes. Every transfer runs over TLS 1.3 between the two devices, each with a certificate it generated itself and pinned to the other when you paired them. Nothing goes through an Edgely server, so there is no relay and no cloud copy to decrypt, and every file that arrives is checked against its SHA-256 before it takes its real name.
No. Pair the two devices once, by scanning the QR code or by accepting the request on both screens, and they keep working together with no account and no internet connection. An account is only needed to activate a paid licence.
Sending and receiving files is free on every tier, on as many devices as you like, and the mobile app is free in full. Pro, 9 euros a year, adds downloads and uploads inside another device’s shared folders, transfer history older than seven days, and resuming an interrupted transfer where it stopped. It is also included in Edgely Guard and in the Edgely Suite.
One transfer can carry up to 10 GB, and a transfer that stalls for 60 seconds is dropped so the sockets are freed. On the free tier an interrupted transfer starts again from the beginning; with Pro it picks up from the last byte the receiver verified, even after the app has been restarted.
Download Edgely Transfer on every device you use, pair them once, and forget the email-to-yourself trick exists.
