Edgely Transfer Send files between Linux and Android without ADB

KDE Connect is excellent if your whole desktop is KDE. Edgely Transfer ships a Linux app as a DEB, an RPM and an AppImage, so it runs the same on GNOME, KDE, Cinnamon or a tiling window manager, and it pairs with an Android phone on the network they share.

  • Linux (DEB, RPM, AppImage)
  • Android 8+

Both apps ship today: a DEB, an RPM or an AppImage for Linux, and Edgely Transfer Mobile on Google Play for Android 8 and later. Sending and receiving files is free on every tier, with no device limit.

What you can transfer

Ubuntu, Fedora or Arch → Android
Photos, archives and build outputs.
Android → Linux
Logs and captures from the phone into your working directory.
Linux → macOS or Windows
The same app pairs with the other desktops too.

How it works

  1. Install the Linux app and the phone app

Take the DEB, the RPM or the AppImage from the downloads page, whichever suits your distribution, and install Edgely Transfer Mobile from Google Play on the phone.

  2. Pair over the network

Discovery is a UDP broadcast on port 53418, sent three ways so it survives a segment that drops one of them. Confirm the pairing on both devices once.

  3. Move the files

Drag them onto the device on the ring, or browse the phone from the dual pane explorer. Transfers run on TCP 53317 over TLS 1.3, and there is no adb and no cable anywhere in the path.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need adb, MTP or a USB cable?

None of them. The two devices talk over the network, so nothing has to be enabled on the phone beyond installing the app. The Linux app runs on any desktop environment, since it is a normal DEB, RPM or AppImage rather than a desktop integration.

Is the transfer encrypted end to end?

Yes. Every transfer runs over TLS 1.3 between the two devices, each with a certificate it generated itself and pinned to the other when you paired them. Nothing goes through an Edgely server, so there is no relay and no cloud copy to decrypt, and every file that arrives is checked against its SHA-256 before it takes its real name.

Do I need an account?

No. Pair the two devices once, by scanning the QR code or by accepting the request on both screens, and they keep working together with no account and no internet connection. An account is only needed to activate a paid licence.

What is free, and what is paid?

Sending and receiving files is free on every tier, on as many devices as you like, and the mobile app is free in full. Pro, 9 euros a year, adds downloads and uploads inside another device’s shared folders, transfer history older than seven days, and resuming an interrupted transfer where it stopped. It is also included in Edgely Guard and in the Edgely Suite.

How large can a file be?

One transfer can carry up to 10 GB, and a transfer that stalls for 60 seconds is dropped so the sockets are freed. On the free tier an interrupted transfer starts again from the beginning; with Pro it picks up from the last byte the receiver verified, even after the app has been restarted.

Ready to send?

Download Edgely Transfer on every device you use, pair them once, and forget the email-to-yourself trick exists.
