Edgely Transfer iPhone to Android: AirDrop between the two phones that do not talk

Moving one file between an iPhone and an Android phone should not mean uploading it to somebody else’s server. Edgely Transfer puts both phones on the same Device Ring over the network they share, and moves the file straight across, encrypted with TLS 1.3.

  • iOS 15+
  • Android 8+
  • macOS 12+
  • Windows 10+
  • Linux (DEB, RPM, AppImage)

Both apps ship today: Edgely Transfer Mobile is on the App Store for iPhone and iPad on iOS 15 and later, and on Google Play for Android 8 and later. Every feature of the mobile app is free, with no account.

QR pairing Scan once, confirm on both screens, and the two devices stay paired.

What you can transfer

iPhone → Android
Photos, recordings and documents between two phones.
Android → iPhone
Archives and backups the other way.
Either phone → a computer
The same ring reaches macOS, Windows and Linux.

How it works

  1. Install the app on both phones

Edgely Transfer Mobile is on the App Store for the iPhone and on Google Play for Android. It is the same app on both, and every feature in it is free.

  2. Pair with a QR code

One phone shows the code, the other scans it, and both confirm. The pairing is mutual and lasts, and the certificate of each device is pinned at that moment.

  3. Send from either phone

Pick photos or files and choose the other phone on the ring. Both phones need to be on the same Wi-Fi network; the transfer never leaves it.

Frequently asked questions

Do both phones need to be on the same Wi-Fi?

Yes. Transfers are peer-to-peer on the network both devices share, which is what keeps them private and fast. A relay for devices on different networks is planned and is not available today.

Is the transfer encrypted end to end?

Yes. Every transfer runs over TLS 1.3 between the two devices, each with a certificate it generated itself and pinned to the other when you paired them. Nothing goes through an Edgely server, so there is no relay and no cloud copy to decrypt, and every file that arrives is checked against its SHA-256 before it takes its real name.

Do I need an account?

No. Pair the two devices once, by scanning the QR code or by accepting the request on both screens, and they keep working together with no account and no internet connection. An account is only needed to activate a paid licence.

What is free, and what is paid?

Sending and receiving files is free on every tier, on as many devices as you like, and the mobile app is free in full. Pro, 9 euros a year, adds downloads and uploads inside another device’s shared folders, transfer history older than seven days, and resuming an interrupted transfer where it stopped. It is also included in Edgely Guard and in the Edgely Suite.

How large can a file be?

One transfer can carry up to 10 GB, and a transfer that stalls for 60 seconds is dropped so the sockets are freed. On the free tier an interrupted transfer starts again from the beginning; with Pro it picks up from the last byte the receiver verified, even after the app has been restarted.

Ready to send?

Download Edgely Transfer on every device you use, pair them once, and forget the email-to-yourself trick exists.
