Edgely Transfer HarmonyOS file transfer: the Edgely Transfer client is being built

Super Device moves files beautifully inside Huawei’s own world, and stops at its edge. Edgely Transfer is being brought to HarmonyOS NEXT so the same Device Ring reaches a Mac, a PC, a Linux machine, an Android phone or an iPhone, with the same encryption everywhere. That client is not released yet.

Coming soon

The HarmonyOS client lives in the edgely-harmony repository and is in development: it is a native re-implementation for HarmonyOS NEXT, and it is not on AppGallery. macOS, Windows, Linux, Android and iOS ship today and pair with each other, so everything below already works between them.

One app, several devices The same Device Ring and the same encryption on every platform that ships.

How it works

  1. Set up the devices that ship

Install Edgely Transfer on macOS, Windows or Linux from the downloads page, and Edgely Transfer Mobile from Google Play on an Android phone or from the App Store on an iPhone.

  2. Pair them once

Devices announce themselves on the network and appear on each other’s Device Ring. Confirm on both sides, and the pairing holds from then on.

  3. Follow the HarmonyOS client

The HarmonyOS NEXT app is not released yet. It is a separate, native build rather than a port of the desktop app, and it will be announced when it reaches AppGallery. Nothing else about the protocol changes.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an Edgely Transfer app for HarmonyOS today?

No. The HarmonyOS NEXT client is in development and is not published on AppGallery. The apps that ship today are macOS, Windows, Linux, Android and iOS, and they transfer between each other.

Is the transfer encrypted end to end?

Yes. Every transfer runs over TLS 1.3 between the two devices, each with a certificate it generated itself and pinned to the other when you paired them. Nothing goes through an Edgely server, so there is no relay and no cloud copy to decrypt, and every file that arrives is checked against its SHA-256 before it takes its real name.

Do I need an account?

No. Pair the two devices once, by scanning the QR code or by accepting the request on both screens, and they keep working together with no account and no internet connection. An account is only needed to activate a paid licence.

What is free, and what is paid?

Sending and receiving files is free on every tier, on as many devices as you like, and the mobile app is free in full. Pro, 9 euros a year, adds downloads and uploads inside another device’s shared folders, transfer history older than seven days, and resuming an interrupted transfer where it stopped. It is also included in Edgely Guard and in the Edgely Suite.

How large can a file be?

One transfer can carry up to 10 GB, and a transfer that stalls for 60 seconds is dropped so the sockets are freed. On the free tier an interrupted transfer starts again from the beginning; with Pro it picks up from the last byte the receiver verified, even after the app has been restarted.

Ready to send?

Download Edgely Transfer on every device you use, pair them once, and forget the email-to-yourself trick exists.
