Edgely Console
Also in the app Edgely Console: Documentation tab, Tools, Keyboard Shortcuts
Edgely comes with a fixed set of keyboard shortcuts for the actions you reach for most: opening a terminal, creating a connection, switching to search, closing tabs. This article lists them, and explains the Shortcuts Manager, which gives your favourite connections and web links one-click buttons in the ribbon.
Key bindings cannot be changed or reassigned.
Built-in Defaults
| Action | macOS | Windows / Linux |
|---|---|---|
| Global search | Cmd + K | Ctrl + K |
| New local terminal | Cmd + T | Ctrl + T |
| New connection | Cmd + N | Ctrl + N |
| Open settings | Cmd + , | Ctrl + , |
| Close current tab | Cmd + W | Ctrl + W |
| Close all tabs | Cmd + Shift + W | Ctrl + Shift + W |
| Session Logs | Cmd + Shift + L | Ctrl + Shift + L |
| My Recordings | Cmd + Shift + R | Ctrl + Shift + R |
| Notifications | Cmd + Shift + N | Ctrl + Shift + N |
| Quit | Cmd + Q | Not bound |
On macOS, all of these except global search also appear in the menu bar (Edgely, File and View menus) with their shortcuts.
Terminal Shortcuts
| Action | macOS | Windows / Linux |
|---|---|---|
| Copy selection | Cmd + C | Ctrl + Shift + C |
| Paste | Cmd + V | Ctrl + Shift + V |
On Windows and Linux, Ctrl + C also copies when text is selected; with no selection it is sent to the remote shell as usual.
Split terminals add their own shortcuts (Ctrl + Shift + E, O, W, M and the arrow keys, on every platform). See Split Terminal.
Editor Shortcuts
In the text editor, Cmd/Ctrl + S saves, Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + S saves a local file under a new name, Cmd/Ctrl + F opens find, and Cmd/Ctrl + / toggles a line comment.
Shortcuts Manager
The Shortcuts Manager is not a key-binding editor: it manages the launch buttons of the Shortcuts ribbon tab.
- Open the Shortcuts ribbon tab and click Manage Shortcuts...
- Click New Shortcut
- Pick a Type: Connection (opens a saved connection) or Web Link (opens a URL in your browser)
- Give it a name, pick the target and, optionally, a group
Shortcuts appear as buttons in the Shortcuts ribbon tab. Shortcuts that share a group appear behind a single group button that opens a small popup. Use New Group to create groups, and Move to Group to reorganise existing shortcuts.
Conflicts and Capture
When the terminal has focus, key combinations that the remote shell expects (for example, Ctrl + C) are sent to the remote host instead of triggering Edgely's shortcut.
Tips
- Modifier names follow the platform convention: Cmd on macOS, Ctrl on Windows and Linux
- Cmd/Ctrl + K is the fastest way to reach a connection, a tool, or a documentation article without the mouse
- Add a Connection shortcut for the few hosts you reach for many times a day
