Install Edgely on macOS, Windows and Linux

The installer for each platform, what it needs, where each app keeps its data, and how updates arrive.

Applies to
Edgely Console, Edgely Database Manager, Edgely Guard, Edgely Transfer
Updated

Edgely Console, Edgely Database Manager, Edgely Guard and Edgely Transfer are four separate desktop apps for macOS, Windows and Linux, each downloaded from Downloads, which always offers the latest release. Installing one needs no account, and neither does using it: Console and Database Manager run with every feature for personal use, Guard and Transfer on their free tier. Signing in adds your licence and, in Console and Database Manager, cross-device sync.

Checked on 2026-09-28 against the packaging scripts and the apps' own build settings. Before you run an installer you can check that it is the one Edgely published: see Signed installers and checksums.

What each platform gets

PlatformFilesArchitecturesNeeds
macOS.dmgOne universal image: Apple Silicon and IntelmacOS 12 Monterey or later
WindowsSetup.exe (marked Recommended), .msix, .zipx64. Setup.exe also installs on Windows 11 on Arm, where the x64 app runs under emulationWindows 10 or later; the .msix needs Windows 10 version 1809 or later
Linux.AppImage (marked Recommended), .deb, .rpmx86_64 and arm64GTK 3. The apps are built on Debian 12

Every desktop app is published in the same formats, so what follows applies to all four. A downloaded file is named after the app, its version, the platform and the architecture, for example edgely-console_0.8.9_linux_x64.deb or edgely-guard_0.8.6_macos_universal.dmg. There is no Mac App Store, Microsoft Store, Homebrew, APT or DNF repository, Flathub or Snap package: the installers on Downloads are the only source.

macOS

  1. Open the .dmg.
  2. Drag the app into Applications.
  3. Open it from Applications or Launchpad.

The disk image is signed with Edgely's Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens it without asking you to change a security setting. The apps are named Edgely Console, Edgely Database Manager, Edgely Guard and Edgely Transfer.

To remove an app, quit it and move it from Applications to the Bin. Its data stays where it was (see below).

Windows

Setup.exe

Run it and follow the wizard, in English, French, German or Spanish. It first asks whether to install for you only, which needs no administrator rights, or for every user of the computer. It adds a Start menu entry, and a desktop icon if you tick the box. If the app is already running, the installer closes it first.

For an unattended install:

edgely-console_<version>_windows_x64.exe /VERYSILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /NORESTART

Remove the app from the list of installed apps in Windows Settings.

MSIX

Open the .msix: Windows opens it in App Installer, which shows the publisher, SIGEAD SRL, and installs the app for your account. It is not a Microsoft Store listing: the file comes from Downloads like the others.

ZIP

A portable copy: extract it anywhere and run the app's .exe from the extracted folder. Nothing is installed. On its first start the app registers the edgely links it answers to, for your user account only.

Microsoft SmartScreen may show "Windows protected your PC" for a signed installer while Edgely's download reputation builds up. More info should read Publisher: SIGEAD SRL; see Signed installers and checksums.

Linux

AppImage

Nothing to install: make the file executable and run it.

chmod +x edgely-console_<version>_linux_x64.AppImage
./edgely-console_<version>_linux_x64.AppImage

On an arm64 machine the file ends in _linux_arm64.AppImage.

Debian, Ubuntu and derivatives

sudo apt install ./edgely-console_<version>_linux_x64.deb

apt fetches what the package depends on: libgtk-3-0, libblkid1, liblzma5 and libsecret-1-0, plus libayatana-appindicator3-1 for Edgely Console. Remove it with sudo apt remove edgely-console.

Fedora, RHEL and derivatives

sudo dnf install ./edgely-console_<version>_linux_x64.rpm

Remove it with sudo dnf remove edgely-console.

Both packages install the app under /usr/lib/<package>, a <package> command in /usr/bin, and an entry in your desktop's application menu. The packages are named edgely-console, edgely-database-manager, edgely-guard and edgely-transfer. Edgely Transfer's packages also install a udev rule for Android phones connected by USB cable; from the AppImage, the app shows you the command to add it yourself.

Where each app keeps its data

Each app keeps everything it remembers in one folder of its own, created on first launch:

AppmacOSLinuxWindows
Edgely Console~/Library/Application Support/io.edgely.console~/.local/share/io.edgely.console%APPDATA%\Edgely\Edgely Console
Edgely Database Manager~/Library/Application Support/io.edgely.databasemanager~/.local/share/io.edgely.databasemanager%APPDATA%\io.edgely.database\Edgely Database Manager
Edgely Guard~/Library/Application Support/io.edgely.guard~/.local/share/io.edgely.guard%APPDATA%\SIGEAD\Edgely Guard
Edgely Transfer~/Library/Application Support/io.edgely.transfer~/.local/share/io.edgely.transfer%APPDATA%\Edgely\Edgely Transfer

On Linux the folder follows $XDG_DATA_HOME when it is set. Installed from the .msix, Windows keeps the app's folder inside the package's own storage instead, unless it already existed from an earlier install. Console and Database Manager keep your passwords and keys in credentials.vault inside that folder, encrypted, and never anywhere else.

Uninstalling an app does not delete this folder, on any platform, so reinstalling finds everything where you left it. To remove your data too, export what you want to keep, then delete the folder yourself.

Updates

Each app checks for a new release when it starts, at most once a day, and every 24 hours while it runs; the switch in its Settings turns the check off. When there is one, the app downloads the new installer into an Edgely folder in your Downloads folder, compares its SHA-256 with the value the site publishes, and hands it to the system:

  • macOS: the disk image opens; drag the new app into Applications.
  • Windows: Setup.exe starts and the app quits so it can be replaced; an .msix opens in App Installer.
  • Linux: a .deb or .rpm is not installed by the app: it shows you the command to run. A new AppImage is made executable and started.

You can always download the latest installer from Downloads and install it over the old one instead.

Mobile apps and IDE plugins

Edgely Console Mobile and Edgely Transfer Mobile are installed from the App Store (iPhone and iPad, iOS 15.6 or later) and Google Play (Android 7.0 or later for Console Mobile, 8.0 or later for Transfer Mobile). Edgely Console for IDEs is installed from the JetBrains Marketplace (IntelliJ-based IDEs from 2025.1), the Visual Studio Code Marketplace (Visual Studio Code 1.85 or later) and the NetBeans Plugin Portal. All of them are free and need no account; the store links are on Downloads.
